Background
After getting independence from the British Rule in 1947, India and the Pakistan were formed. The subsequent partition of the former British India displaced up to 12.5 million people, which caused hundred thousand to 1 million death. India became a secular nation with a Hindu majority population and Muslim, Christian, Sikhism and other minorities, while Pakistan with a Muslim majority population and a large Hindu minority later became an Islamic Republic although its constitution guaranteed freedom of religion to people of all religions. But it lost its minority population due to migration and after East Pakistan was separated in the Bangladesh Liberation War.
As of 2019, GDP of India is around of 10 times greater than Pakistan.
The Kashmir dispute is the greatest issue in the India-Pakistan relationship, and has
hindered the development of normal relations between the two countries. The Kashmir dispute was the direct or indirect cause of the three wars that were fought between the two in the past.
